Often times, editing is a Godsend in fixing up near (but not quite) perfect images like in this example. Notice how an adjacent flame in the upper left corner of the initial shot is cleaned up perfectly in both edits, as well as the way the edited edges lack the double-outline that the initial coloured photo contains.
Not that black and white is required to fix those issues; I've even shown that it can in the middle progress picture. At the end of the day, it's all just personal preference, but to me there's just something about the way it cleans up through that final conversion that I simply adore!
